Dream
Welcome to the hillsides of Casa Mido!
We dreamed up a place for true relaxation — and we’d love to share it with as many people as possible. For a long time, we searched for a spot at Lake Balaton that had everything we needed to recharge: nature, peace and quiet, relaxation, hiking, cycling, gastronomy, and wine culture.
We knew we had found a real treasure the very first time we stepped onto the property. We immediately felt that we had “arrived” — even though back then it was only a crumbling little house surrounded by nearly 3,000 m² of weeds, wild shrubs, trees, non-native plants, and long-forgotten grapevines that were clinging to the tops of leaning “tree-of-heaven” trees, searching for calm — and especially for sunlight.
By the way, did you know that grapevines are among the most resilient plants? They can survive in incredible conditions — their ability to endure is truly unique.
ABOUT THE HOUSE
Our house is located in one of the most beautiful villages of the Balaton Uplands, in Badacsonytomaj, on the hillside, with a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Balaton.
The house was built in 1837, most likely by a local resident who used it as a wine cellar. For a long time it was forgotten and nearly fell into decay, until the Pál family partially renovated it in 1990 — creating a sleeping area in the attic and plastering the house to prevent further deterioration.
We found this little wonder in 2020, during COVID. We inspected it for a long time and worked on cleaning the area, and in 2022 we began the full renovation. Keeping the original character and soul of the building, while combining it with modern comfort, our goal was to create a sociable, welcoming place that is livable even in winter — a home where we can host family and friends, and also share this small miracle with others.
With two separate units and separate entrances (ground floor and upper floor), the house can accommodate up to 8 guests in 5 separate bedrooms. The indoor communal space ensures that you can enjoy time together even during the colder months.
WHY “CASA MIDO”?
We spent a lot of time thinking about the name of our house. Sailors say a boat only has a soul once it has a name!
This region is full of iconic local words that represent peace and the feeling of arriving — such as basalt organ pipes or Rose Stone — but these felt too general and impersonal to us. In the end, we chose a name that has a deeper meaning for our family.
CASA is a Spanish word meaning “house” or “home.” We wanted to combine it with a single word that expresses all the joy and happiness we feel when we are here — the place that gave us strength, that we worked so hard for, and that we want to pass on as a legacy to our daughters, Mira and Dorina.
MIDO (MiraDorina) symbolizes family, unity, and belonging. As parents, we can give our children nothing more valuable than a strong set of values and a little “fuel” for their journey. We hope this place will bring them as much joy as it brings us.
THE ESTATE
The house is set on a 0.4-hectare property. We created spaces and activities that — for us — represent countryside life and true relaxation.
Next to the house, we built a summer terrace with a kitchen, outdoor cooking facilities, and outdoor furniture. In the northern part of the estate, we restored the land’s original function: on 1,500 m² we planted grapevines, which we cultivate ourselves.
Parking is available for up to 5 cars — which is often the biggest challenge in the area. For children, we created a private playground, and for ourselves a peaceful relaxation corner where you can sit back in armchairs and enjoy the panoramic view.
THE AREA
Casa Mido’s location is perfect for exploring the region — especially for hiking lovers. From Szidónia Street, you can walk directly into the mountain, which is absolutely worth conquering. Stunning panoramas, geological curiosities, and the world-famous Badacsony wines await you along the trails.
The center of Badacsony is 1 km away, about a 15-minute walk from the house. By bike, you can explore the surroundings as well — even cycling all the way around the mountain.
You can visit the Káptalantóti market, or hop onto the Balaton bike path and discover the region in either direction — without even getting into a car. Just a few examples: Sümeg Castle is 33 km away, Lake Hévíz 31 km, Tihany Abbey 39 km, and Szigliget Castle or the Tapolca Lake Cave are only 10 km away.
We also prepared a detailed guide introducing the most interesting sights in the area — places we discovered during our own explorations.

We wish you a wonderful stay with us — and until then, follow us on facebook, or instagram , and we’ll keep sharing the Badacsony lifestyle with you 🙂
